Just a few short months ago, when we launched the ideas behind out latest new book project, it seemed there was at least some things to celebrate, some rays of sunshine in the relentless struggle against the power of the extractive industries – the folk who would prefer to burn rather than absorb from nature. The right wing political parties who seem bent on stirring up discontent and even hatred against those of us who believe, fervently, that the world will be a better and safer place when we stop burning fossil fuels have a great deal to answer for. The cynical might argue that the divide-and-conquer strategy so successfully (in part) employed in order to grab power is paid for entirely by those who still wish to profit from burning stuff – and by god there are still massive profits to be made. Count me in as one of those cynics. I’m disgusted by what has happened to a debate about climate that appeared to have been largely settled.
Later this year, art.earth Books will publish On a day like today we just need to look forward (culture | imagining | energy | creativity). There is hope in this title, hope we honestly believe is still not misplaced.
Perhaps you agree, perhaps you don’t, but above all perhaps you will consider submitting your ideas to our publication. If you think you have something to say (or show) please take more of a look at https://artearthbooks.com/a-day-like-today/ and send us your thoughts before May 9.
