art.earth was broadly recognised for bringing together voices who would otherwise never speak directly to one another and was primarily known for a series of international symposia. The organisation closed in 2023, but the imprint continues as art.earth Books. In 2026 we are publishing two new titles and are now inviting submissions.

The breath we share:  

embodied and creative practices for a living and dying world (working title)

In 2022 we interrogated somatic practices and how they might foster embodied ecological awareness at Sentient Performativities: Thinking Alongside the Human. As always, this gathering embraced multiple fields of thought, practice and research, embodying bridges across the human, plant and animal divide.

The core issues feel ever more pertinent and urgent. Despite all we know, the world seems only to double down on a collective environmental apathy, reinforcing the putative supremacy of humankind above other life forms (such an old, old story). Narratives of separation from the more than human world privilege systems based on extraction and exploitation, leaving many paralysed, indifferent or just stunned into submission.

In 2026 we will published a follow-on, The Breath we Share: embodied and creative practices for a living and dying world. We are now calling for submissions (deadline March 15), welcoming a broad interpretation of the theme and a broad range of embodiment.

Ten years ago, art.earth (with partners RegenSW and Schumacher College) brought together some of the most interesting people and ideas exploring sustainable energy and creative responses to our apparently insatiable need for energy. Feeding the Insatiable: creative explorations of real and imaginary futures took place at Dartington Hall in southwest England in November 2016. Read the programme.
